Google+ the new social media

One site that is new to the social networking era is Google+. The number of users who use Google+ for posting pales in comparison to Facebook or Twitter but one thing Google+ is attempting to do is to improve different features of social networking, such instant messaging and uploading photos.

As Google senior vice president says "People have beautiful treasures that have become stranded in these devices." Google+ offers users the ability to upload photos at their full photo resolution rather than compressing them like Twitter and Facebook. Along with adding other tools such as editing features and new ways to tag photos.
Another feature Google+ is trying to gain an advantage is the ability to chat with other people face-to-face individually or in groups. Google+ instant messaging feature is Google Hangout and offers users the ability to chat one on one and with up to ten people at a time. Google Hangout is very similar to Skype but focuses more on face-to-face interaction.
Many people are critical of Google+ and don't understand how to use it and all its features though including myself.

  1. The new Google + sounds like a very interesting place I would love to explore. One point that stuck out to me was the fact that Google + is improving on the photo uploading process. I get so irritated when having to resize a photo in order to upload it. Also, having a combination of Facebook, Twitter and Skype sounds like a dream come true. I already love Google and everything they have created thus far, the Google + will only escalate my customer loyalty.

  2. I understand the benefits of the new Google+ and I myself have an account. I'm not fully educated on all of its features, but from what I've read it just seems like Google is once again trying to take over the scene. They do have amazing technology capabilities, but it just seems like they're a little late in the game..

  3. Something that makes Google+ unique is its massive advertsing budget. Any of Google's products have the massive resources of Google behind them, but somewhat uniquely Google+ has made use of those resources to forfeits way into the public eye. The best example of this is the tab Google+ has on mashable without being close to the largest social media platform. it will be interesting to see if Google's massive budget will be enough to make its social media platform successful.

  4. I definitely agree with you Diana on the photo resizing that is very aggravating to me too. And yes Liz I think they have a lot of great features as well and have read in a couple articles that were critical of how they were late to the start a social networking site, but I guess better later than never.

  5. There are many other features that google provides. There is google docs that allow people to share power points, documents, and spreadsheets. This makes work easier and more efficient when working in groups. I have used the calling feature in google and it is extremely good.

  6. I made a Google+ account maybe a year and a half ago. Me and my boyfriend at the time were the only people I personally knew on it. Til this day, I still don't have any friends other than us who have one. I always saw the potential in Google+ and think it could be great, but with apps like Instagram, which are way simpler and easy to use, I am not sure how quickly it can catch up.

  7. I also like Google +. However i agree with others in saying that there are not as many people i know as a whole that have Google Plus accounts. They have a majority of accounts held in email services. If there is a way to connect those and/or make people more aware of those accounts would be greatly beneficial.
