Social Media is considered to be an important part of people’s life now.
The role that Social media plays in the lives of people has changed as time
progressed and evolved as a completely new aspect of communication.
If we go back in the history and try
to evaluate the role of social media in people’s life, we will be amazed to see
how social media grew from making friends, to sharing pictures, to networking
and now sharing information with people of same interest. Pinterest is a pin
board style website that allows users to create and
manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies.
Users of the website can browse other pin boards for pictures, information and
many different like interest things. They can repin the items, quotes, fashion,
photos etc. on their own board and share it with their friends.
If we have a close look
at the way the website has been designed, the basics are the same as any other
social media website. Users make friends and share information, apart from all
this one aspect of the website that is unique from other social media is that
you can be friends with people of same interest. This is when the users
actually go out of their comfort zone and interact with someone whom they have
not known personally but feel comfortable in interacting because of the same
interests.
Pinterest is considered to be haven for the
marketers. They can direct their adds to a group of same interest people and
communities with people of same interest. Unlike other Social media where
website tries to get the people with like interest together, in pinterest the
users themselves find their way to a community or else a pin boards with same
interest. Until now Pinterest has been successful in creating an environment where
people are comfortable in interacting in the pin boards style but as time
progress and the users taste changes, the users will look for some more
features to keep them interested in the pin board style interaction. It will be
a tough barrier for the Pinterest team to go past and develop.

People that are really big users of Pinterest are able to stay on their for hours, searching creative ideas for anything from wreaths for their front doors, nail designs, creative food designs, etc. There is a massive amount of information available on Pinterest, and it continues to grow every day. I believe that Pinterest might be more productive and useful than other social networks like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at how into people get with Pinterest. I'm always asking my girlfriend how she is on there for so long just searching and "pinning" different pictures. I can see as a business side how Pinterest could be a huge marketing tool with getting your product out on to the web with so many visitors. Once someone sees a cool item and pin it and comes back to look at it again could be a huge advantage for a business in getting their product out there. It's definitely something that businesses need to start doing to take advantage of the free advertising.
ReplyDeleteI will confess... I am a Pinterest addict. I can stay on there for hours a day because it has so many things tied to what I enjoy doing (ex. cooking). It is GREAT marketing for a company if anything of theirs gets "pinned". Once 1 person pins something it is like a chain reaction and people start to follow, pinning it to their boards and sharing it. This is by far a social network that I think is one of the most addicting.
ReplyDeleteI agree to what you say Myers. I know people who can go for hours on pinterest. When I asked some of my friend about this they say " its addicting and the reason is that you always feel like clicking on one more photo thinking you might find something interesting".
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting to see how Pinterest has changed the way people live. For me, I always find recipes on Pinterest. My mother is still getting used to this concept though, because she has all of her family recipes written down and placed in a recipe box; she initially did not understand the concept of something like scrolling through Pinterest to find new ideas.
ReplyDeletePinterest is a great way to get new ideas and find creative projects. I also agree that it is a very smart way for marketers to promote their products.
One lady told me about this site while I was working and I did not get the idea at first, but after I went on there and checked it out I was amazed. I totally believe it is a lot more beneficial and fun than Facebook or Twitter. Well, Facebook and Twitter have their advantages as well because I get news and discussions about politics from all over the world by going on them and this is something pin interest might not have, well I don't know I might find out that it does after I become more addicted to it, but thanks for the useful information :)
ReplyDeleteI have use pinterest all the time in my daily life, from recipes to arts and crafts. It all depends on what I am interested in at that moment. It is a really cool form of social media because you can share your own personal ideas or someone elses ideas. I made dinner just last night off a pinterest recipe! The funny thing is I never thought of it as advertising, but it is exactly that. Advertisers and businesses are able to get the consumers to do the work for them! If the consumers like it they will continue to pin it.

I love Pinterest. I've only been a user for about three months but I can say it is addicting, especially when you find yourself in a boring situation. I often find myself searching for quick recipes and the new fashion trends. I love the fact I can connect with friends easily and swap ideas. Especially with Christmas coming up its always good to stay in the loop. I just wonder what future social media ideas are and how long the hype of Pinterest will last. Overall its a great app hope it doesn't start spreading viruses to mobile devices with its external links.
ReplyDeleteI am new to Pinterest and I'm loving it. I find it to be more useful than Facebook because I find my cleaning, cooking, and decorating tips of it. It do believe it is advertising aimed at females though. How many men are really on there? It is mostly women sharing ideas, but it is my preferred social media outlet, so I'll take the advertisements as they come.
ReplyDeletePinterest has become massive in the past couple years. I agree with many others that have commented on this because it is very helpful to people. There are many creative ideas, cooking recipes and decorating ideas for people to use. I also think that Pinterest is more directed at females rather than males.
ReplyDeleteI love Pinterest. It is a way for me to find fun and new ideas to decorate my apartment as well as provide cool cooking recipes. I love the fact that pinterest has options on separate websites for you to pin pictures and articles to pinterest. This is great for me, for like my recipes, I don't have to search the web for all these different cooking blogs, but I can pretty much see them altogether on Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteEric Stamp- Pinterest has grown huge in a very less time and it is due to its easiness and marketing use. It is a haven for the marketing companies.
ReplyDeleteCaris Rogers- I have talked to people who say they have missed out on meals just because they were on pinterest. It is very addicting than the other social media.
K O'Connor- It would be interesting if they have more men stuff up on pinterest. They have a very limited for men due to which they loose out on the male users.
Rana Ibrahim- Yes It is very interesting and useful. Unlike the other social websites its not just pictures and likes and status but it is full of information.
Keantonia Lowe- who would have thought this a few years ago. Pinterest has such a huge range of information to interest people of all age group and the information is very diverse.
Christopher McCall- I will agree to what you say. It is the best rescue to kill boredom. But if used wisely it is a very handy website.
