In the past decade we have
seen many changes in social media. The way social media has advanced and spread
into fields we never imagined. Who would have imagined the role of Facebook and
Twitter in business world? Today social media has become a very important tool
for the society and the importance of social media will only increase as time
passes.
We
humans are social animals. We need to socialize as a part of our life. Today
when the world is moving at rapid pace it becomes very difficult for everyone to
meet in person or else communicate due to barriers like difference in timing
and far away geographic locations. To overcome such difficulties we rely on
Social media. Social media is a tool that brings the society under a single
umbrella.
The
content we share on social media is a very important aspect that will decide
the direction in which social media will grow. The content we share on social
media changes according to the need. At some point of time all we did on social
media was shared “ What’s on your mind”, but now we share a lot more than just
what you think and do. Social media will go through changes, as the needs of
the users will be recognized.
In
the future the success of social media will depend on the advancement in the
mobile technology. Today social media is used widely and a majority of people
has switched to hand held devices to get on social media. It is more convenient
way to use social media. Social media will grow mainly in three different
fields, personal, business and information.
I cannot believe how far social media has come. I remember having AIM be the only way of interacting socially with your friends after school. It allowed you to keep in touch with people you no longer had classes with and you also felt more comfortable contacting them through AIM instead of a text. It was more informal. Then MYspace came along, which is practically what Facebook evolved into. It just shows you how FAST social media is evolving. If you can't keep up, your most likely going to be ran out of business by your competitor.
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny how many people use social media. What happened to the good ole days where you called someone or had a face to face conversation. I find it hard to read this post because I don't use social media and I've found it to be better for me. Social media may be an outlet to network with others and their companies but how much of this communication is really helping people. It's terrifying to think that the only way companies feel that they can reach people is online? Why do so many people use social media? information and technology are the leaders in the industry of business. I understand that in the near future most people might have to get into social media just to have the edge that everyone else does.
ReplyDeleteNot only do consumers rely heavily on social media, but it is crucial to businesses for a variety of tasks. In a few years it will be very interesting to see how technology has been modified to suit our needs, and what new ways both businesses and consumers use technology as a means of communication. I agree that future social media depends on mobile technology, but not entirely. I think aspects like cloud computing and web 3.0 will have a profound impact on the way everyone uses social media.
ReplyDeleteI do not use social media but it is important for businesses to harness the advertising possibilities of it. Especially for small businesses, any edge that they can use to compete with big chains is crucial to their survival. The fact that it is a really cheap method to reach thousands if not millions of potential new customers is an amazing feat that only our new levels of technology can afford. On a personal note, I do not need to share every tidbit of my usually boring life with anyone else and as such, I will keep myself out of social media for personal use.
ReplyDeleteSocial media is a big part of my day, and as a manager, I know that my employees will also be on social media daily. Although our company doesn't have a very strict rule about social media posting, I wonder how much productivity is being driven down by all the associates that are hooked up on social media 24/7. I agree that a ruling has to be in place, however I believe that people should be allow to use social media through their mobile devices on a daily basis. I wish that the line to be traced wasn't so gray as it is today. It is kind of hard to measure what is too little and what is too when trying to control social media in the work environment.
ReplyDeleteI think that the use of social media is definitely here to stay. I know in my own case, I have left home, driven ten miles and realized I left my iPhone at home. I am ashamed to say that I turned around and went back home to get it. A bog reason for that was social media. Without my phone I feel disconnected from the world now. Facebook is now a part of what defines me as me and keeps me in touch with the world around me. I think the real question for the future is how ease of use and access to the social network will increase and develop in the years to come.
ReplyDeleteI believe, like the rest of technology, social networking will continue to grow and grow. I found that last picture to be interesting because it is basically saying the next big thing is google +, yet it's been out for 2 or 3 years without really taking off. I think the biggest reason for that is that transition period from site to site, like from myspace to facebook, is that human reluctance to change to something out of your comfort zone and something that you know how to use; to something that may be better, but is likely a little more complex. Once you get to using a social networking site you can't go more than a day without using it and not feel disconnected to a degree from the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteMichelle Le Cras- I agree to what you say.Social media has come a long way and it is rapidly changing. At one point we thought Facebook will never see a decrease in users but now it does. So it is very important to understand the people and their need in this industry.
ReplyDeleteTara Bruno- Well said and If we observe at the change it has caused in the way we behave in public is also very different. No we do not feel the need to initiate conversation with a stranger instead we pull out our phones and connect to some stupid social network.
ReplyDeleteLevi McVay- It is very interesting to know how business use Social Media. Apart from marketing purpose , the businesses have also started using social media to track what we do on the internet. SO the future can go either way. We might be benefited by the advancement but we might also have to give up our privacy.
ReplyDeleteShawna- I think we are on the same boat. I deactivated my Facebook 3 years ago and I never felt the need to go back to it. Yes businesses value it as a tool but for an individual like me its more face to face rather than sitting behind a screen and hitting some keys.
ReplyDeleteRodolfo Alvarado- Good observation I must say, and if we add up the productivity lost in the whole nation it can be some serious number. It will be difficult for the coming generation to get away from Social media and this can causes a huge impact on the way future will be written for them.
ReplyDeletejasonlshaw1- If we go back a few years back, you would never turn back to get your phone because you knew where your friends were supposed to meet and your activities were planned for the day but now its different we are connect through this network.
ReplyDeleteJack Hill- Yes i will agree to your point and would also like to add that the transition period will me very short, due to the change in the taste of people the companies will have to come up with something new very fast.
ReplyDeleteI too think that social media is here to stay. It will be very interesting to see the creative ways it will be used in the future. I can only imagine that there will be some mind blowing uses of social media in the future. Just think back to the birth of Myspace. today. Who would have ever dreamed just how many people would be using social media
ReplyDeleteIt is remarkable how fast the internet has improved our social networking capabilities. I believe it is here to stay and new and better markets will be arriving for better social interaction. What will be the next big thing?
